Importance of Used Textbooks

image2

Post-secondary education is not cheap, with increasing living costs and already high tuition costs, just another thing that further financially burdens the students are textbooks. Students are often left thinking about whether they should get a new textbook or a used textbook. Here are two reasons why used textbooks are a better option and how our organization can help make the process of buying used textbooks easier and more secure

The average textbook price is $105.37, and for one academic year that price can add up to $1,226. However, you can’t simply skip buying textbooks (except they are online) they are crucial for educational success as they aid classroom discussion, highlight important points, and provide examples. So, consider buying used textbooks, they cost on average 40-60% less thus saving you a ton of money.

Moreover, the production of textbooks is not environmentally friendly. A study done in Sweden has found that a hardcover book emits 1.2 Kg CO2 EQ over its life span. In addition, in 2019 Penguin Books UK examined its carbon footprint and found that paper contributes 41% and printing 33%. A used textbook reduces the number of new copies printed and helps reduce, reuse, and recycle. You can help protect the environment, by buying used books.
